 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) came to prominence in the early 90's with the introductoin of MMA. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's dominance was quickly established. BJJ is now considered the #1 effective martial art in the world. BJJ is an essential component for self defense, grappling tournaments and mixed martial arts competitions.
Lee Douglas and Taryn Douglas are certified Black Belts under world champion Carlos Machodo. Lee's younger brother Taryn studied various martial arts thoughout his life. Starting at a young age, Taryn studied in an attempt to discover a martial art with practical applications. It wasn't until the discovery of BJJ that a true passion was formed. That passion was joined by Lee, who was also experimenting in martial arts, and was quickly discouraged by the lack of practical street applications. Before BJJ, at a young age Lee focused his attentions towards other activities such as gymnastics and diving, becoming an accomplished and dominating competitor in both - a trait he passes on to his students today.
